Summer of Hope: Read, Reflect, and Reach Out!

A Fun & Faith-Filled Project for Children’s Ministry and VBS

Looking for a meaningful way to help children unplug this summer and reconnect with what really matters?

Summer of Hope is a purposeful journey of faith, gently leading children away from technology and into moments that truly matter: compassion, connection, and the joy of giving from the heart.

Start by reading Don’t Give Up! Give Hope, the heartwarming story of Naomi and Mr. Taylor that reminds children that their kindness matters. Naomi’s simple act of giving a note to an elderly neighbor shows that a caring gesture can brighten someone’s heart and bring lasting hope.

Children are then invited to bring that message to life by creating their own Hope Jar, a decorated jar filled with encouraging notes ready to bless someone in need. A Hope Jar is a beautiful way for children to follow Naomi’s example and live out their faith.

This project isn’t just a one-time activity, it’s a special opportunity for children to honor God by spreading kindness and encouragement through multiple Hope Jars they create over the summer, preparing their hearts for the upcoming school year.

Children can:

  • Stock their Hope Jars in their section of the family Giving Closet or G Vault, always ready to give.

  • Slip a small plastic mini-Hope Jar into their backpack so they’re prepared to share God’s love and encouragement anytime the opportunity arises.

Hope Jars also make a thoughtful outreach activity for nursing homes, reminding the elderly that they are not forgotten, but valued and appreciated.

Perfect for:

  • Vacation Bible School

  • Children’s Ministry Summer Programs

  • Mommy & Me bonding time

  • Homeschool enrichment activity

  • Back-to-school outreach distribution

  • Nursing home and retirement community visits

With every Hope Jar given, a child is doing more than just sharing a note, they are becoming a living part of God’s supply chain, spreading joy and reminding others that they matter. Just like Naomi, every child has the power to be the difference.
